I am genuinely concerned about how California consumes nearly
50% of all oil exports from the Amazon globally. We need to commit
California to a policy agenda that ensures that California
refineries do not source crude from the regions where there are
indigenous rights violations or regions where new oil drilling in
the Amazon is being planned.
I urge you to present a plan for California to reduce
and/or eliminate it's consumption of crude from the Amazon. We need
to commit to new fuel efficiency standards and expanded
electrification of fleets that consume the most Amazon oil.
California should commit to expand EVs and public transportations
more broadly as soon as possible.
I am sure that you are
aware that we are racing against the clock in reversing the effects
of climate change.
