I am unable to attend this very important meeting, but want my
voice heard regarding actions taken to address climate change.
Living in Santa Rosa, it is beyond clear that climate change is
happening more rapidly than scientists could have predicted. My
concern is that the decision makers are not acting with the urgency
that is called for. Goals of 2040 and 2050 are too late; we must
set goals for no later than 2035. To name just a few, fossil fuels,
methane, agricultural practices, transportation, need to be
immediately addressed and prioritized. As a private citizen, there
is only so much I can do - drive less, grow food, buy local,
support local organic farmers, divest from fossil fuels, compost,
reduce waste and plastic use, buy used. I am doing all that I can,
all that know of, and change my behaviors when I know more.
Now, we need our leaders to prioritize the climate, and make
decisions with the necessary urgency. Support the actions that we
are doing individually, educate those of us who are not yet, and
take actions that will add up to reverse climate change. Invest in
CLEAN ENERGY. Train people in CLEAN ENERGY, and do so with a goal
no later than 2035. Or how about 2030?
Time is running out. I'm doing my part, and now I need you to do
yours.
Thank you,
Rebecca Shirley, Santa Rosa, CA
