In the face of unprecedented climate change, California needs to lead the way in greenhouse gas emissions. The biggest opportunity for reducing GHGs is in transitioning our transportation system from car-based to transit-based. We need more concrete steps for shifting people from single-car trips to transit, biking, and walking transportation. Bigger investments in bus and rail are desperately needed, as well as a bigger focus on Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT). Zero emission vehicles are also one part of the solution; targets shoudl be accelerated as follows:

    • 100% Light Duty Vehicle (LDV) sales are ZEV by 2035 at least 75% LDV sales are ZEV by 2030 with only ZEVs on the road by 2045
    • 100% of MD/Heavy Duty Vehicle (HDV) sales are ZEV by 2035 with only MD/HD ZEVs on road by 2045
    • 100% of all transit buses ZEV by 2030
    • 100% of drayage trucks are zero emission by 2030
    • 100% of cargo handling equipment (CHE) is zero-emission by 2030
    •

Thank you and please stand up to the business-as-usual folks who want to pretend that anything less than drastic action is needed right now.
