I'm writing to request provisions to the 2022 Draft Scoping
plan. Most importantly, we need to accelerate the transition away
from fossil fuels and towards the deployment of existing,
cost-effective, just solutions.
Specifically, I'd like to see:
1. Fossil fuel extraction phased out by 2030,
2. Gas-fired electric power generation phased out by 2035,
3. Investment in public transportation and phasing out the
gas-powered vehicles,
4. Phase out gas appliances from our buildings.
These bare-minimum changes are important to me as a Californian
because my community will be heavily impacted by droughts,
wildfires, and sea level rise. Not only that, but other states and
countries around the world look towards California for climate
policy, so if we don't set the bar high, communities around the
world could fall short of effective climate action. We have to do
the right thing here.
