Attention: California Air Resources Board,

As a nearly life-long resident of California to which I feel much loyalty, I equally feel shame that  California accounts for approximately 50% of the global consumption of Amazon oil (or nearly 1 in 9 gallons pumped in-state on average).
If there continues to be the possibility of our earth sustaining human life, California, as the whole of the United States, must honor policy that is upheld internationally. California could lead in setting standards for sustainability.
Rein in rogue refineries. Commit California to a policy/regulatory agenda that ensures that California refineries are not sourcing crude from regions where there are Indigenous rights violations. Ensure that no sourcing is from regions where new oil drilling in the Amazon is being planned.
Don't punt California's climate impacts to communities in the Amazon. Present a plan for California to reduce and/or eliminate its consumption of crude from the Amazon.
Commit California to new fuel efficiency standards and expanded electrification of fleets that consume the most Amazon oil. I urge expansion of EVs broadly(!), and public transportation goals(!) to reduce domestic consumption equivalent to Amazon oil import totals.
#In California we must NOT be complicit in driving new oil drilling in the Amazon and you, the CARB, must regulate refineries’ crude sources and volumes.
