Re:
Trucks Emissions - Scoping Plan Item# 22-9-1
Testimony/Comment
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My name is
SILVIA CALZADA. a constituent of District 1 in the County of San
Diego living in the portside neighborhood of Westside
National City for more than 25 years.
As a
long-time patient with asthma, I understand the impact
decision-making has on my family’s present and future. For
this reason, I am a resident member of the AB 617 Community
Steering Committee and the Maritime Clean Air Strategy Committee
for the Port of San Diego supporting the reduction of emissions for the Portside
Environmental Justice Neighborhoods.
I am here
today requesting CARB consider implementing cleaner trucks faster
and more efficient public transportation for our communities by
2030. We deserve it!
The Port of San Diego is committed
to 100% clean trucks by 2030, so the rest of California should do
the same. Dirty trucks full of toxic
emissions, known as diesel particulate matter, circulate through
the streets of our neighborhoods day after day, month after month,
year after year. Those toxins spread into our homes and schools and
become intruders in our very own lungs. They pollute the air we
breathe affecting our health - mentally and physically. We need
electric trucks in our ports.
It is also
necessary that California invests in public transportation
including in the reduction of rates/lower fares, more frequency and
better services for our constituents by 2035. I look
forward to the improvement of our air quality in our
neighborhoods. Thank you for your attention and
interest in serving our communities better.
