My name is Dr Glayol Sahba and I am a Sacramento resident of 30 years and a member of Sacramento Physicians for Social Responsibility, Sacramento climate coalition and 350 Sacramento. There are few moments in history that an action that one takes can be so consequential as today! If you’ve ever wondered about what your legacy will be to your grandchildren and to the fate of future generations please recognize that this is it! With choosing the most rapid GHG emissions-reducing option you will ensure that the we utilize the last possible chance our civilization has to prevent irreversible and catastrophic Climate Change! Your decision will affect goals in other states as well as in other nations. In this final decade that humanity has to reverse carbon emissions you must speak for the fate of all future generations- not the fate of fossil fuel companies who have knowingly deceived us for decades!

Your current draft plan will not keep global temperatures close to what scientists say will avoid catastrophe- The scientists urge rapid decarbonization: These 2045 goals are simply inconsistent with the current scientific recommendations to stop the initiation of irreversible tipping points- with uncontrollable economic costs! In view of accelerating Climate Change, The end result of Slower action will  be the same as no action!

This draft plan does not follow AB 32’s requirement that California achieve quote “the maximum technologically feasible” emission reductions, using the most cost-effective methods.

According to IPCC’s March 2022 report Carbon Capture and Sequestration is the least effective and most expensive method out of 43 climate actions evaluated to lower GHG emissions by 2030!

Your own EJAC has recommended much faster and more comprehensive approach to cutting emissions so as to protect those in disadvantaged communities who suffer more from effects of air pollution.

Follow the guidelines recommended by the many community environmental and climate Justice organizations : At least an 80 percent reduction in emissions by 2030, not 2045,  instead  of those recommendations protecting the interests of the fossil fuel companies who are willing to reduce our planet to a lifeless shadow for the sake of their profits!

Your grandchildren and all life on Earth will thank you for it!
