CARB must determine a way from Amazon
crude
As Californians and US citizens, we need to
transition away from crude oil. Fossil fuel expansion in California
and in the Amazon must end. A transition plan is required.
The Amazon is an important carbon sink,
necessary for climate stability and has rich biodiversity. It
needs to be preserved. As a Californian, I want nothing to do
with its destruction.
I was dismayed to learn that California
consumes nearly 50% of all oil exports from the Amazon globally -
nearly 1 in 9 gallons pumped in-state on average.
Again, I
don’t want to be complicit in driving new oil drilling in the
Amazon - the California Air Resources Board (CARB) needs to
regulate refineries’ crude sources and volumes. No oil from
the Amazon.
In addition to ensuring no crude sourced
from the Amazon is used in CA, the CARB needs to ensure California
refineries are not getting crude from areas where there are human
rights violations
