Dear CARB,
As a California voter and human being, I'm concerned with the
2022 climate change scoping plan. We need a stronger response. We
need a full coordinated phase out of fossil fuels. We need to stop
refining oil, and we need to do this soon. 2035 is the
latest we can be burning oil, and the longer we wait to take, the
more difficulties we will have.
CARB's policies are a driving force across this nation, and I
believe that a stronger plan will lead to a stronger America, one
where we do not rely on foreign powers for our energy consumption.
One where the poor are not forced to inhale toxic smog and exhaust
because their neighborhoods happen to be near an interstate.
Carbon Capture is a distraction. It is a risky bet pushed by oil
companies that are seeking to preserve their fortunes. What if we
took that money and instead funneled it into public transit,
subsidies for electric bikes, and walkable neighborhoods.
My local transit operator, AC Transit recently purchased a few
hydrogen powered busses. They're a joy to ride, fast, quiet,
comfortable. They don't disrupt neighborhoods with noise or
exhaust. But we only have a few of them, and my local bus lines
here in Oakland don't run frequently or late enough, forcing many
people, myself included to own a car. I am convinced that replacing
our gas burning fleet with EV and hydrogen busses and expanding
service will do far more for the climate and the air than a carbon
capture facility ever could.
Thank you for taking the time to read my comments,
