Dear California Air Resources Board members,

I represent the 700 members of the Sacramento chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility. Climate change is a public health crisis that requires an urgent response. We feel that the draft scoping plan is inadequate and urge you to follow the recommendations of the Environmental Justice Advisory Committee.

We support phasing out of of oil and gas extraction by 2035, oil refining by 2045, as well as a rapid transition to a zero-emission transportation system by 2035.

We need to eliminate or minimize reliance on cap-and-trade, or Carbon Capture technologies which would subsidize and perpetuate the fossil fuel industry and increase GHG emissions.

A robust public health equity evaluation process should be built into the design prior to adoption of the scoping plan.

The future of our world and the lives of our children and grandchildren depends on your decision. Thank you for considering this input.
