Hello, my
name is Naydeleen Ortiz, I am a resident of Oxnard, and youth
leader with CAUSE, a non-profit organization. I’m speaking on
the CARB Scoping Plan. I live in Oxnard, a city that is 400 miles
away from here. I have traveled 400 miles from my EJ community to
speak at this conference because under staff’s proposal, we
would keep all existing generators online and add 10 GW by 2045.
Because the majority of the state’s more than 160 polluting
gas plants are in EJ communities, this would concentrate generation
in EJ communities like Oxnard, which already has more than its fair
share of gas-fired generators. We need CARB to create the road to
zero emissions for the health of both our people and planet. I care
about this issue because my family, friends, and community are
continuously being affected by this issue. The health of our
community is at stake. We need to transition to clean renewable
sources. We can’t keep ignoring this issue. We need to switch
alternatives before it’s too late. Thank you.
