Hello, my
name is Moncerrat Hernandez, I am a resident of Oxnard,CA in
Ventura County, and I am a young adult leader with the non-profit,
CAUSE and I’m speaking on the CARB SCOPING PLAN. I am here
(attended the the in-perso meeting and traveled from Oxard with 11
other fellow CAUSE youth but were not called on in time to comment)
to voice my concern over the lack of ambition by CARB to stop the
environmental injustices ongoing in our state disproportionately
affecting communities of color.
I urge the
board to create the road to zero emissions and commit to it
for the health of our people, ecosystem and planet Earth. Living in
South Oxnard, I and community members wake up to go to school or to
work and we always have to face the unfortunate view of a power
plant at Ormond Beach. Neighborhoods of such proximity have a
higher rate of asthma and Oxnard and the rest of the communities
across the state deserve clean air. We must also think of future
generations to come and what example and environment is being
placed and created. In the CARB Scoping Plan, I am asking the Board
to make a plan for 100% zero-emissions, clean, renewable
electricity by 2035, and no new gas plants. Our climate and
communities can’t wait any longer because what we are asking
for is not a want but a need. Thank you for your time.
