It is abundantly clear that California's biggest problem is the
warming climate. We appreciate many of the provisions in the
current draft 2022 climate change scoping plan, but they are just
not adequate to address the looming disasters we face. To have a
hope of a livable state in the future, we need to immediately stop
investing in fossil fuel infrastructure, accelerate a phase-out of
oil and gas extraction and oil refining, do everything we can to
greatly increase energy efficiency in transportation, buildings,
and food production, and accelerate renewable energy generation
(this does NOT include the unsafe Diablo Canyon nuclear plant,
which should be closed down as planned). Encouraging changes to
agriculture to allow more carbon to stay in the ground is also
necessary. We desperately need truly bold leadership which will
implement rapid, meaningful changes to achieve carbon neutrality by
2045 at the latest. Solar radiation is our problem but it is also
our solution. Future generations will either thank us or curse us.
Please make California the leader in the country and the world in
our actions right now which will affect the millenia to come!
