Hello my
name is jessie parks a first generation black third year public
policy major at The university of California riverside. Through my
first quarter as a transfer student I have expanded upon the prior
knowledge I have learned volunteering and interning at the sierra
club, meaning I know the importance of adopting a environmental
justice advisory committee just as we have at UCR where we are able
to examine and identify the solutions to take the much need actions
to a just transition. Further more with the inland empire being
riddled with pollution as an inland port the the time for
comprehensive change is inparative! We can’t allow shortcuts
in the development of this carb scooping plan! I love connecting
with the planet and social and mental wellness that are all inter
connected through our community. CCS is a fossil fuel greenwashing
tool that will extend the life of polluting oil and gas in
California.
You
all have to ability to change the lives of my friends and family
for the better and that starts by establishing an environmental
justice advisory community. I urge the Board to continue listening
to the voices and realities of frontline Californians. As this
agency turns to other regulatory processes and to implement this
scoping plan, we hope to see A permanent Environmental Justice
Advisory Committee for implementation of the Scoping Plan. This
year’s Scoping Plan shows real leadership, and that would not
have been possible without the tireless efforts of the.
California’s frontline communities should be centered in
Scoping Plan implementation to make sure that working-class
communities of color benefit from the clean energy transition, and
the best way to do that is to make sure we have a seat at the table
via a permanent EJAC.
Thank
you!
