Dear CARB
Board,
Thank you for
your leadership in considering the EJAC comments and suggestions in
the process to complete the 2022 Scoping Plan. I commend the
plan’s goals to scale up investment in mass transit, set
interim goals to wind down gas-fired electricity generation, and
call for an interagency process to implement the phasedown of oil
refining and extraction.
However, more
work still needs to be done. The plan offers huge handouts to Big
Oil, using carbon capture to keep refineries online indefinitely
and utilizing dirty gas power plants, polluting bioenergy, and
dirty hydrogen facilities. Instead, more effort, research and
resources need to be provided to increase the use of Natural and
Working Lands solutions.
I strongly
support EJAC’s intention to become a permanent part of the
CARB planning and implementation process. Together, EJAC and CARB
can prioritize the health and well-being of all Californians, and
find a path for a just transition to clean
energy.
