California is currently one of the highest consumers of crude oil from the Amazon. Oil drilling is unsustainable and extremely harmful to the environment. The Amazon is one of the most important and vulnerable ecosystems on Earth, and its protection and preservation are essential to the health of our planet. Furthermore, in Ecuador there are ongoing protests concerning the protection of both the Amazon and the rights of the indigenous peoples of the region. California is currently part of the problem due to its role in raising demand for Amazon crude oil. Therefore, it is high time that California end its contribution to the destruction of the Amazon. Please work to lessen, and then eliminate altogether, our state's need for oil from the Amazon. Until that happens, please ensure that all refineries source their oil from places that are not violating human rights or planning to increase oil drilling. Please commit to switching over to a sustainable California economy that does not rely on fossil fuels from halfway around the world in order to be able eliminate fossil fuels completely. It should be noted that as such a process is carried out, economic support will need to be given to the laborers who currently work in the fossil fuel industry. None of this will be easy, but it is necessary for the health of our planet, our people, and our economy. Thank you.
