My name is Tyyne Parakhen and I am a resident of San Diego. As a
mother of a young toddler and a soon-to-be-born baby, I am
painfully aware that our decisions today will irrevocably determine
their future. We are in a climate emergency and must act now. This
is why I urge the CARB to create a robust and aggressive climate
plan that matches the seriousness of the climate crisis. I urge for
the plan to call for carbon neutrality by 2035, with no new
investments in fossil fuels, clear steps to transition away from
fossil fuels (including natural gas and non-green hydrogen), and
investments in renewable energy. The plan must not
rely on unproven technologies like carbon capture and storage
(CCS). CCS is NOT a viable solution for addressing
our climate emergency and is often used by the fossil fuel industry
as a way of justifying continuing their operations and maintaining
the status quo. We cannot afford to continue postponing the
transition away from fossil fuels. I trust the CARB will act with
the urgency and seriousness required to meet the climate crisis,
and help secure a livable future for our children.
