Carbon capture is costly and unproven.  It is aggressively marketed by the fossil fuel industry, which should be a red-flag for all concerned. In a transition to eliminating the use of fossil fuels, carbon capture technologies will only prolong the use of fossil fuels, and exacerbate the existing co-pollutants. There is very little regulation surrounding the necessary pipelines, or the sequestration site.  All of which pose a range of public health threats.

Funding for carbon capture projects is distracting from full-scale roll out of renewables like solar and wind. Carbon capture is still in the experimental stages, while solar and wind have been successfully deployed at commercial scales.

Recognizing the disparate impact of fossil fuel industries on front-line communities, the City of New Orleans City Council has already taken the bold step to prohibit carbon capture projects in New Orleans. California should also be taking the lead on this issue. Please remove CCS/CCUS and DAC from the Scoping Plan Update.

Press release announcing New Orleans Resolution NO. R-22-219 is attached.

Thank you very much.

Respectfully submitted.
