Subject | AB 32 Scoping Plan/land use reform |
Comment | Dear Members of the Air Resources Board, It is imperative that the land use target in the AB 32 Scoping Plan for greenhouse gas reduction be raised from 5 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent (MMT) to 11-14 MMT. The benefits of dense, mixed-used development are not only substantial, but achievable with policies that are already under consideration. A low target will send the wrong signal, namely that business-as-usual development should continue, that land use reform is not a high priority, and that continued urban sprawl is an acceptable form of urbanization. It is not! We need a higher target, a commitment to provide financial resources, technical assistance, and other needed support to help regions, local governments and transportation agencies achieve the target. Global warming is no joke! It is real, threatening to the well-being of all life on the planet, and the time for REAL action is now! Thanks you for consideration of these comments. Please vote for the future of life in our state and on earth. |
