Subject | Comments on Climate Change Proposed Scoping Plan |
Comment | I am in full support of the plan's greater emphasis on the role of land use and local government efforts in meeting the grenhouse gas reduction goals. As a public health professional, I would like to see a more formal role for public health in the implementation of AB 32. I would also like to see protections in place for low-income communities to reduce disparities in health burdens. Finally, I would like to see an even higher target for greenhouse gas reductions from the land use sector. The current target of 5 MMT does not keep California on track for achieving our 2050 greenhouse gas reduction goals. CARB should increase the goal for emissions reductions to 11-14 MMT. This would send an important signal to create communities that enable people to get out of their cars and walk, bike, or take public transportation. This would improve their own health while improving the health of the planet. |
