Subject | Support of ZEVs |
Comment | I support reducing greenhouse gas emissions 25% by 2020. The most promising way to reach this goal is to give consumers the choice to buy Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs). Please, DO NOT reduce the number of ZEVs required of automakers. Please: 1. Require (at least) the full 25,000 ZEVs that automakers had promised for 2012-2014, and 2. Create a separate requirement for plug-in hybrids that lets them replace the dirtiest vehicles in CARB's regulations, rather than the cleanest ZEVs. Choice for consumers means cleaner air for everyone. The larger issues at hand are making EVs available to the working class masses and creating the green collar workforce and attendant infrastructure to reinvent our concept and mode of transportation. Without your effective leadership in spurring the market, encouraging development and deployment of EVs and providing a necessary (and long overdue) pathway to sustainable transportation options, our societal standards of living will rapidly deteriorate. Gone are the days of cheap fossil fuels and excessive consumption, we need to move quickly towards finding more energy secure and sustainable modes of transportation. EVs are a vital, no - integral part, of that solution. Our planet’s natural resources are not ours to exploit, we borrow these from our children. If not for us, for our children and their children’s sake we must start to provide answers with tangible and effective means to reduce our environmental footprints. |
