Subject | Opposing reduction of ZEV requirements |
Comment | I writing to express my objection to the California Air Resources Board’s proposed reduction of Zero Emission Vehicle requirements. I support the Governor’s agenda to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the most promising way to reach this goal is to give consumers the choice to buy Zero-Emission Vehicles, like the electric Tesla Roadster, and dozens of other cars from struggling automotive startups. CARB is supposed to be supporting this agenda too. Unfortunately, at the next California Air Resources Board meeting, I've read they’re proposing to reduce the number of Zero-Emission Vehicles required of automakers by 90%, settling for only 2,500 from 2012-2014. This is the exact opposite action of what is needed. It will kill the electric car momentum again. I'm asking the appointed CARB chair, Mary Nichols, to (1) re-commit to the full 25,000 ZEVs that automakers had agreed to produce in 2012-2014, and (2) create a separate requirement for plug-in hybrids that lets them replace the dirtiest vehicles in CARB’s regulations. Choice for consumers means cleaner air for everyone. |
