Subject: Bio Methane retrieval by So. California Gas Co.
Comment:
I am writing to protest allowing Southern California Gas Co to 'collect' from cows in Northern California the methane gasses they produce, change it to biomethane gas, then transport it down to Aliso Canyon for storage and possible sale to the cities/counties of the Western US. They have proven untrustworthy, and not only is this program not established, it sounds rather implausible. Another caution, transporting it down to Aliso is just asking for leakage troubles, not to mention millions of dollars to create pipelines to do this. It is dangerous and wasteful - I would think they are just getting money to help heal their losses for the huge methane leak that they lied about and then took 9 months to get fixed (if it is indeed fixed?). I live in this area, (Porter Ranch) and many still detect leakage that causes migraines and nose bleeds for some. If So. CA Gas provides their own funds, they should keep the biomethane up in Northern California where they are collecting and producing it - not transport it down to Southern California. I also think they need to do some mock ups, studies and tests that are checked by third parties before they are ever trusted to do a new program again. They have to earn back our trust. I believe the monies are better spent to help local (LA County) companies for environmentally friendly projects and that SoCalGas should have nothing to do with these projects, other than paying the fines. If in ten years they have played fair and participated in programs that help the clean up and progress of truly clean energy (NOT FRACKING) then perhaps we can trust them again. Thank you for your careful consideration.
