Santa Cruz County is an official partner agency to the local Monterey Green Business Program (Program). The program provides technical assistance to small and medium businesses to make lasting changes that provide multiple environmental benefits. It also grows the green economy through creating a marketplace for Certified Green Businesses. Our Program provides on-site assistance and verification of practice and behavioral changes. It results in the quickest and deepest uptake of new practices in the small business setting. It has the added benefit of generating program outcome metrics that we can stand behind because the coordinators verify them in person. The Green Business certification is an example of a program that directly meets the GGRF funding priority of investing in projects that result in measurable ghg emission reductions and multiple environmental benefits. The Program also provides economic benefits and extends program the benefits to disadvantaged communities. As such we strongly encourage your Board, the Governor’s office, and the State legislature to consider including a small business element in your investment plan so that programs like ours can truly grow the green economy throughout California.
