I certainly agree that California's farmlands, ranch lands and natural landscapes need to be managed for wildfire, climate change and carbon sequestration. However, it is totally erroneous to lump forests, coastal sage scrub, and chaparral into a single category. Coastal sage scrub and chaparral can be managed similarly. Forest lands are in a different category altogether; they are in need of prescribed burning and will benefit from such treatment. To treat sage scrub and chaparral in this manner, however, will turn these areas into flammable weed grasslands, which will prevent the return of our native chaparral and sage scrub. Please consult with recognized outside experts like Richard H. Halsey on the appropriate management of these lands. Thank you for considering my comments.
