The dominant culture has been wrong in every endeavor. How do we know this? We're cultivating food so we can keep the "machine" of empire running. We can either keep playing the game of infinite growth on a finite planet, aka Jenga! OR we can begin to listen to those who have had the boot heel of this culture upon their collective throats. I'm gonna go with those whose ancestors have lived sustainably for the first 3 million years of the human experience. You can go with the rice protocol but sanity will clearly not be on your side...or life.
