Subject: Comment on Scoping Plan Alternative 3
Comment:
I am in the midst of converting my home from gas to all electric. This is an expensive, multi-year effort. Having made this personal commitment to reduce the climate pollutants I generate, I am very disappointed that CARB's Scoping Plan recommends Alternative 3, which proposes adding new gas capacity, in addition to other regressive measures. We simply cannot be investing in new infrastructure that maintains and extends our reliance on fossil fuels. Any investments in fossil fuels at this point must be in managing their decline as sources of energy. Additionally, to assume that carbon capture will be a viable solution in the near future is a false notion. The investments made in this technology to this point haven't demonstrated financial or technical success. The real solution on which we must all be focused is reducing the production, distribution, and use of fossil fuels and increasing our investment in less expensive renewable energy. Please re-consider your support for Alternative 3; California needs a plan which recognizes that we are in the midst of a destabilizing climate.
