desig -- Exceptional Event Documentation for 2008 Northern California Wildfires
Posted: 20 Jul 2009 15:40:47
ARB is requesting that the 2008 Northern California Wildfires be considered an Exceptional Event by the U.S. EPA. Exceptional events are unusual or natural events that can overwhelm existing control strategies for man-made pollution. If such an event occurs and U.S. EPA agrees with the exceptional events determination, data is not counted against an area's measure of air quality in relationship to compliance with air quality standards. The 2008 Northern California Wildfires constituted a natural event. Documentation detailing the extent of this Event has been made available for a thirty day public comment period ending August 20, 2009. The documentation can be found on the ARB website at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/desig/desig.htm. This documentation will be forwarded to the U.S. EPA for final determination after this comment period has ended. If you have any questions, or wish to submit formal comments, please contact: Theresa Najita Air Pollution Specialist California Air Resources Board P.O.
