research -- Reactive Halogen Species in CA Coastal Areas -- Final Report is available
Posted: 20 Jan 2010 07:50:42
“IMPACT OF REACTIVE HALOGEN SPECIES ON THE AIR QUALITY IN CALIFORNIA COASTAL AREAS,” UCLA, Contract 05-307 . The primary goal of this project was to provide experimental evidence for the presence of reactive halogens, reactive halogen precursors, and halogen chemistry in coastal air masses and in the Los Angeles Basin to determine whether halogen chemistry should be included in current urban airshed models of Southern California. Researchers conducted field observations of reactive halogen species, their precursors, and VOX reaction products in a coastal environment of southern California. The results from this work are a greatly improved understanding of coastal RHS chemistry that can be used by the Board to assess the impact of RHS on urban coastal air quality and to help determine whether RHS chemistry should be included in airshed models. This research was sponsored equally by the Atmospheric Impacts Committee (AIC) of the Coordinating Research Council (CRC) and the Air Resources Board (ARB) as contracts A-62-1/A-62-2 and 05-307, respectively. The full report has been posted on our website at http://www.arb.ca.gov/research/apr/past/05-307_complete.pdf Additional information about the Board’s Research Program can be found at http://www.arb.ca.gov/research/research.htm.
