The state's controversial global warming law still has the support of a majority of Californians despite growing doubts about its potential impact on the economy, according to a Field Poll released Tuesday. The poll shows 58 percent of registered voters support Assembly Bill 32, which will require significant reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions. The poll was commissioned by Next 10, a San Francisco nonprofit group that supports green technology and reducing gases blamed for global warming. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a mandate for dramatic reduction of greenhouse gasses into law, the state's economy was in a very different place. Unemployment was 4.5 percent and residents felt rich thanks to inflated home values. Today, 12.5 percent of Californians are out of work, the state is in budgetary meltdown, and Californians are re-evaluating their priorities. Four years ago, California earned accolades for adopting a law that would slash its greenhouse gas emissions and serve as a model for national climate change legislation. Now Nevada County's state Assemblyman Dan Logue, R-Linda, is battling the plan, asking that it be delayed until California's current jobless rate is cut by more than half with his California Jobs Initiative. Under the climate change measure, oil refineries, manufacturers, cement plants, utilities and other carbon polluters are to begin cutting their emissions in 2012. Our favorite global warming quote of the day comes courtesy this Wall Street Journal headline: Another: A La La Land climate law ignores economic reality. Why is it so clear to everyone except the ones pushing it? Oh, yeah. Because they stand to gain control and your money. Silly question, huh? The second global warming point to ponder also comes from the Journal today. It’s a column in which the question is asked: “What’s the next global warming?” Posted. http://orangepunch.freedomblogging.com/2010/04/06/a-couple-of-global-warming-points-to-ponder-la-la-law-and-new-panic/20401/
