Air Resources Board is presenting Course 511 “Diesel Exhaust After-treatment Devices” which reviews heavy-duty diesel engine technology and retrofit control technologies used to meet in-use heavy duty diesel regulations. Topics include a review of diesel particulate matter (PM) health effects; diesel engine PM and nitrogen oxide (NOx) production and control strategies; diesel particulate filter (DPF) theory, operation, construction, and application; as well as regulations requiring DPFs. Other control technologies discussed include: diesel oxidation catalysts, continually regenerating traps, NOx catalysts, selective catalytic reduction (SCR), NOx adsorber catalysts and passive and active DPFs using online and offline regenerating strategies.
