The California Air Resources Board, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, and the California Department of Public Health announce a public workshop: Global Climate Change and Public Health: The Health Impacts of California Heat Waves. The workshop will be held on July 30, 2007 from 1 to 5 PM in the Byron Sher Auditorium, Cal EPA Building, 1001 I Street, Sacramento, CA, 95814. Topics to be addressed include: -The history of heat waves in California -The immediate and direct health effects of the heat wave of July 2006 -Atmospheric model predictions of future ambient air temperature changes and subsequent impacts on air quality in California -Estimates of the effect of changes in temperature and air pollution on death and disease in California -Steps to reduce the public health effects: health surveillance, heat warnings and mitigation strategies -Review of indirect health consequences of climate change: infectious disease, floods, wildfires, pesticide use The workshop webcast will be available at this link: http://www.calepa.ca.gov/broadcast/?BDO=1 There will be an opportunity for remote viewers to email questions during the discussion period via email at: auditorium@calepa.ca.gov More information is available at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/cc.htm#what's%20new.
