New wildfire smoke documents of interest have been posted to the CARPA website. First, the Oregon Wildfire Response Protocol for Severe Smoke Episodes provides guidance for the state and federal agencies who respond to severe smoke episodes in Oregon caused by large or long-duration wildfires. the protocol is designed to coordinate response in order to mitigate the impacts on public health. Second, the NM Department of Health published as assessment of the public health impacts in Albuquerque (NM) populations following the 2011 Wallow Fire in Arizona. Both documents are now available at the CARPA website, www.arb.ac.gov/carpa. ____________________________________________________________ The California Air Response Planning Alliance (CARPA) was formed in 2006 by the California Air Resources Board, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and the Governor's Office of Emergency Services. CARPA's mission is to provide actionable incident response information to protect public health and the environment from the impacts of accident or deliberate releases of hazardous compounds into the air.
