carpa -- Air Quality Impacts from the Aspen Fire
Posted: 26 Jul 2013 17:16:21
The Aspen Fire is impacting communities as far away as Mammoth Lakes, CA. Smoke from the Aspen fire in the Southern Sierra is affecting Mariposa, Oakhurst, Auberry, and Mammoth Lakes. The greatest impacts are overnight and into the early morning. However, periods of heavy smoke are occurring intermittently. Twenty-four hour average concentrations for particulate matter in Mammoth Lakes have been in the Unhealthy range. ARB and the US Forest Service are monitoring the smoke and the Forest Service has a team of public outreach specialists providing information about the fire directly to residents. A news release from the Sierra National Forest is available here: http://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/sierra/alerts-notices/?aid=18845 Additional information, including links to health alerts can be found at http://www.arb.ca.gov/carpa. ____________________________________________________________ The California Air Response Planning Alliance (CARPA) was formed in 2006 by the California Air Resources Board, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and the Governor's Office of Emergency Services. CARPA's mission is to provide actionable incident response information to protect public health and the environment from the impacts of accident or deliberate releases of hazardous compounds into the air.
