The California Air Resources Board (ARB) staff has updated Volume IV of the Monitoring and Laboratory Division’s Quality Assurance Manual - Monitoring Methods for the State Ambient Air Quality Standards. The update includes the addition of specific particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) samplers and analyzers approved by ARB as California Approved Samplers (CAS) for the purpose of determining compliance with the State’s ambient air quality standards. The update to the CAS list can be viewed at the following webpage: http://www.arb.ca.gov/aaqm/qa/qa-manual/vol4/vol4pm.htm. The Children's Environmental Health Protection Act (Senate Bill 25, Escutia 1999) required the evaluation of all health-based ambient air quality standards to determine if the standards adequately protect human health, particularly that of infants and children. The subsequent review of the PM standards resulted in the adoption of more health protective ambient air quality standards for PM10, a new standard for PM2.5, and created the CAS list that identifies acceptable measurement methods to monitor for compliance with all State standards. For questions about the CAS list, please contact Michael Miguel (916) 322-0960 (or mmiguel@arb.ca.gov). California is in a drought emergency. Visit www.SaveOurH2O.org for water conservation tips.
