Attention Small Business owners and operators:. Cap and Trade has generated significant dollars to be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions primarily. Do you know how those funds will be used in your community? statewide? Did you know that the law requires specific benefits from the use of this revenue? Do you know there is a learn-able process for making decisions in your community? If you care enough to look at a website, and/or participate in an informational workshop near you, please read to the end of this notice. If you don't care, hit delete now. There is a local and state process for Cap and Trade revenue decision-making and you need to get involved now to have a voice. To inform yourself about the basics of how funds from the Cap and Trade auctions are distributed, who makes the decisions, what is required by law, etc. go to this website; http://www.arb.ca.gov/auctionproceeds and scroll down to the three gray boxes at the bottom. The first of the three boxes tells you how much revenue and where it has been allocated so far. The second gray box identifies upcoming workshops where you can learn more,including the three mentioned further down in this email. The third gray box again refers to the next three meetings coming up in two weeks (August 20, 25, 26), provides information from past meetings, and explains the tool that is commonly being used to determine disadvantaged communities. The rest of this email gives you details on the August 20, 25, and 26 meetings. Read the website and be prepared for the meeting to get the most value for your time. Remember, your business and the people you employ are key assets within California and your knowledge is needed. Please plan to attend one of the workshops below. If you are interested in a specific program, such as Sustainable community investments including affordable housing, Strengthening disadvantaged communities, or Making wise investments in water and energy you can access information on the same website by clicking on the item under "What's New" on the right hand side of the page. --- Public Workshops on the Investment of Cap-and-Trade Auction Proceeds to Benefit Disadvantaged Communities The California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) and Air Resources Board (ARB) invite you to participate in public workshops to discuss investment of Cap-and-Trade auction proceeds. Topics will include: the identification of disadvantaged communities, development of guidance on maximizing the benefits to disadvantaged communities, and how to determine what counts as benefitting those communities. The workshop will be held in three locations as indicated below; each workshop will cover the same topics.
