CAP AND TRADE

Can A Carbon Tax Create Jobs, Jobs, Jobs?
Yes, it could. And it should create many more than it destroys,
so long as the revenue is spent wisely. Ah…there's the rub.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change insists that we
take a path that will get us to a low-carbon future (IPCC; U.N.
report), and they insist that we use an all-of-the-above strategy
to get there. But the only way to seriously move us in that
direction is to...

CLIMATE CHANGE

A Gulf in Ocean Knowledge
Scientists probably have significantly underestimated how much
the world’s oceans have warmed since the 1970s, according to a
new study. The finding may force researchers to revise their
gauges of some climate change effects, including the rate of
sea-level rise.

Northern California finally gets a break from wildfires
For the first time in months, wildfires across California are
under control or nearly there, according to state and federal
firefighting agencies. Two of the state's biggest wildfires --
the 98,000-acre King fire in El Dorado National Forest and the
133,000-acre Happy Camp Complex fires in Klamath...

DROUGHT

Drought Dries Up California Hydropower
As California's historic drought dries up the state's water
supplies and withers its crops, it's also shaking up the way
electricity is produced there. There's so little water
available in the state's reservoirs that California's ability
to...

VEHICLES

Fast charging your EV might not be as bad as predicted
...demise from fast-charging might be highly exaggerated. A study
put together by researchers from Stanford, Sandia National
Laboratories and MIT and published in Nature Materials refutes
previous reports that indicate that rapid charging and intense
use of electric-vehicle batteries degrades them at a faster rate
than a slower, steadier recharge-discharge process. The study
itself is chock full of really scientific terms, but the crux is
that a larger percentage of a battery's particles are
absorbing...

Region's first public hydrogen-cell fueling station to open in
West Sacramento
A German company plans to open by the end of this year the
region's first retail hydrogen-cell fueling station at a Ramos
Oil Co. facility in West Sacramento that supplies a variety of
specialized fuels. The station — to be built by Linde LLC — is
part of an effort by the state of California to make hydrogen
fuel-cell cars commercially viable by creating a network of
stations.

Climate Change Hits Close to Home for Small Family Farmers
...Nations Climate Summit. No one who calls Planet Earth home
should ignore the urgent need for reforming environmental
policies and practices -- worldwide. The President made
history, detailing how the United States is leading the way in
the fight against climate change and calling for global support.
The New York Times called the President's signature action for
cutting carbon pollution "the strongest action taken by an
American president to tackle climate change."

Climate Change Has Uneven Effects on Ocean Warming
...acidifying seas have been invisibly filled with thousands of
these bobbing instruments. They are gathering and transmitting
data that's providing scientists with the clearest-ever pictures
of the hitherto-unfathomed extent of ocean warming. About 90
percent of global warming is ending up not on land, but in the
oceans. Research published Sunday concluded that the upper
2,300 feet of the Southern Hemisphere's oceans may have warmed
twice as quickly after 1970 than had previously been thought.
Gathering...
