shorepower -- Public Workshop to Discuss Proposed Amendments to the At-Berth Regulation
Posted: 14 Oct 2014 14:04:24
The California Air Resources Board (ARB/Board) staff invites you to participate in a public workshop on Thursday, November 6, 2014, to begin discussion on proposed amendments to the At-Berth Regulation. At the workshop, ARB staff will provide information on the implementation status of the At-Berth Regulation and initiate a dialogue on potential concepts for amendments to clarify regulatory requirements and improve implementation. Meeting materials, including the workshop notice and agenda, are available at the shore power website. http://www.arb.ca.gov/ports/shorepower/shorepower.htm The workshop will be held at the following time and location: Thursday, November 6, 2014 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (PST) Cal/EPA Headquarters Building Sierra Hearing Room 1001 I Street, 2nd Floor Sacramento, California 95814 If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Jonathan Foster, Air Resources Engineer, at (916) 327-1512 or shorepower@arb.ca.gov. Background: In December 2007, the Air Resources Board approved the At-Berth (Shorepower) Regulation. The purpose of the regulation is to reduce emissions from diesel auxiliary engines on container ships, passenger ships, and refrigerated-cargo ships while berthing at a California Port. The regulation provides two options to reduce at-berth emissions: 1) turn off auxiliary engines and connect the vessel to some other source of power; or 2) use alternative control technique(s) that achieve equivalent emission reductions. California is in a drought emergency. Visit www.SaveOurH2O.org for water conservation tips.
