In a sweeping environmental manifesto aimed at spurring action,
Pope Francis called Thursday for a bold cultural revolution to
correct what he said was a "structurally perverse" economic
system in which the rich exploited the poor, turning Earth into
an "immense pile of filth."

Annual conference provides climate change skeptics a ‘safe zone’

At least for a brief time in a small place, there was an
overwhelming consensus among the gathered scholars,
climatologists, policymakers and elected officials about man-made
climate change — that it’s a colossal fraud.

Will climate change stop people from visiting America’s national
parks?
A new study in the journal PLOS ONE explores how climate change
and warming temperatures could alter how many people visit U.S.
national parks. Roughly 80 percent of parks already are
experiencing extremely warm conditions, says Nicholas Fisichelli,
an ecologist for the National Parks Service’s climate adaptation
team and the study’s lead author.

Competing in a cap-and-trade environment-Panel discusses how
Ontario's new system will create both opportunities and
challenges
On April 13, the Ontario government announced its commitment to a
cap-and-trade system to reduce the province’s 165 megatonnes of
annual greenhouse gas emissions. Over the long term, that’s good
news for businesses paying the price for unpredictable weather,
from higher heating and cooling costs to shrinking timber
supplies and more frequent floods. But how will this new system
affect the bottom line in the coming years?

Carbon trading: How does trucking fit in?
There is one famous adage from Thomas Edison I recall that
somewhat reflects the message I wanted to deliver in this column:
“Opportunity is something that is missed by most people because
it arrives dressed in overalls and looks like work,” he said. In
other words, upon first glance, opportunity often presents itself
as a bug, not a feature.
