The Office of Health Equity of the California Department of Public Health is looking for an experienced epidemiologist for an exciting research and leadership opportunity investigating the potential health impacts of the implementation of the ground-breaking California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32) http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/ab32/ab32.htm. The AB 32 requires a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, setting the stage for a transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future. The epidemiologist in this position will be the lead technical advisor for the Climate Action Team (CAT) http://climatechange.ca.gov/climate_action_team/index.html Public Health Workgroup http://climatechange.ca.gov/climate_action_team/health.html that addresses cross-cutting issues related to climate change and health, including issues specific to AB 32 implementation and the Workgroup’s plan http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/ab32publichealth/meetings/042010/expanded_work_plan.pdf. This position will deal with research on climate-related health impacts, especially focusing on disadvantaged communities; health equity concerns will be a central function of much of the work in this position. An ideal candidate would have a strong background in environmental epidemiology and/or social vulnerability to climate effects. This position will also support other research and data projects within the Office of Health Equity. This will be a Research Scientist IV position within the California Department of Public Health, Office of Health Equity. This position is not currently posted, but will be posted soon. Upcoming deadlines to file the RS IV examination are July 24th, September 24th and November 24th.
