sore -- TESTING OBSERVATIONS FOR UNITS D4 AND D18 FROM THE 2013 SMALL OFF-ROAD ENGINE VALIDATION STUDY
Posted: 03 Sep 2015 09:57:55
During the Small Off-Road Engine Working Group meeting on September 2, 2015, a question was raised regarding the difference in diurnal emissions from test to test for units D4 and D18. In an effort to provide industry with useful information to assist in identifying the source of problems that led to failure of some equipment in the 2013 Validation Study, Air Resources Board (ARB) staff have reviewed the test records for those units and found the following observations were made during testing. Unit D4: Liquid was seen leaking from the seam in the metal fuel tank down the side of the engine. Liquid was also seen leaking from a plastic fitting in the side of the fuel tank. The manufacturer elected to have the unit recycled after testing was complete rather than have it returned to the manufacturer. Unit D18: A gasoline leak was noted. It appeared to be leaking from the carburetor, and it became worse with time. The unit was returned to the manufacturer after testing was complete.
