obdprog -- Updates to On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) Website
Posted: 28 Oct 2015 14:14:09
Several changes to the OBD website have been made. The changes include the following: 1. The Air Resources Board (ARB) staff has updated the form numbers of several electronic templates that manufacturers are required to submit to ARB when certifying their OBD II and heavy-duty OBD systems. Manufacturers are required to use these updated templates for future submissions to ARB as soon as possible. 2. ARB staff has added the following presentations to the OBD website: The Board Hearing presentation from the recent ARB OBD II rulemaking update (Board Hearing date: September 24-25, 2015, and ARB presentations from the September 15-17, 2015 SAE OBD Symposium (Indianapolis, Indiana, USA). 3. ARB staff has revised the OBD II Facts Sheet to update and correct the information. 4. ARB staff has added a link to ARB’s ongoing regulation work related to “innovative technologies” on the front page. These documents and information can be found at the following website: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/obdprog/obdprog.htm If you have any questions or comments pertaining to the changes, please contact Wendy Gallardo by phone at (626) 450-6229 or by e-mail at wendy.gallardo@arb.ca.gov. Background: OBD systems are self-diagnostic systems incorporated into the computers of new vehicles. The OBD system monitors virtually every component that can affect the emission performance of the vehicle to ensure that the vehicle remains as clean as possible over its entire life, and assists repair technicians in diagnosing and fixing problems with the computerized engine controls. Nearly all 1996 and newer model year light-duty and medium-duty vehicles less than 14,000 lbs. are equipped with OBD systems, while heavy-duty vehicles over 14,000 lbs. have phased in OBD systems starting with the 2010 model year.
