Valley air district gets $6 million to help combat pollution 
Jared Blumenfeld, regional administrator of the federal
Environmental Protection Agency, talks about the San Joaquin
Valley Air Pollution Control District receiving a Targeted Air
Shed grant of nearly $6 million, which will help fund changing
out wood-burning devices and replacing farm tractors. The
district also received a federal grant that will help fund
additional tractor replacements.

Marin OKs ambitious climate change goals
Ambitious goals to curb greenhouse gas emissions were approved
this week by county officials who pledged to meet aggressive
targets outlined in a climate change action plan. The county,
updating its climate change program, said that by 2020 it intends
to cut community greenhouse gas emissions 30 percent below 1990
levels, and those generated by government activities by 15
percent.

Cities must take lead role in tackling climate change, says
Mexico City mayor Ahead of the Paris climate talks, Mancera says
countries should change direction and look to cities for
inspiration – while revealing plans for a new water fund to
address his city’s major shortages. Once notorious for air
pollution, Mexico City’s ability to clean its skies has shown it
can also be a leader in reducing emissions of greenhouse gases,

Report: Climate change could create extreme poverty 
Study finds that rising global temperatures contribute to crop
losses, food price shocks
Rising sea levels from unchecked carbon emissions could drive
more than 100 million people into extreme poverty and submerge
the homes of over half a billion, two new reports say. The
reports have been released ahead of the United Nation's 21st
annual global conference on climate change -- known as COP21 --
being held in Le Bourget, France from 30 November to 11 December,
