AIR POLLUTION

Air pollution causes wrinkles and premature ageing, new research
shows. Toxic fumes may be the primary cause of skin ageing in
polluted cities such as London, New York and Beijing, scientists
say. Air pollution is prematurely ageing the faces of city
dwellers by accelerating wrinkles and age spots, according to
emerging scientific research. The effects of toxic fumes on skin
are being seen in both western cities…

Why it’s time Africa features in global plans to manage air
pollution. Two years ago the World Health Organisation (WHO)
identified air pollution as the world’s worst environmental
health risk. It estimated that more than seven million people die
prematurely due to air pollution every year. That is a staggering
one in every eight deaths globally.

efforts'. Ex-ministers and environmental groups condemn decision

Get ready for a massive heat wave. July is turning out to be a
scorcher. A massive heat wave will park over the southern United
States later this weekend and stretch into midweek. It will cause
discomfort to millions of people from coast to coast, though it
may not break temperature records, according to the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

DROUGHT

How revenue losses played into decision to relax conservation
rules in California. It wasn’t just generous spring rains filling
north-state reservoirs that had California’s urban water
districts pushing back so hard against mandatory water cuts this
year. All those brown lawns and shorter showers have cost them
millions in customer revenue.

DIESEL ACTIVITIES

EU to introduce CO2 emission limits for trucks. The European
Commission will propose limits for the first time on CO2
emissions from trucks and will also set new fuel efficiency
standards for cars and vans from 2020, according to a draft
document seen by Reuters. The European Union currently has no
limits on truck emissions, unlike other countries such as the
United States, China, Japan and Canada, which already have truck
fuel efficiency standards.

California Mulling Changes To Zero-Emissions Mandate Owing To
Credit Glut. Tesla Model 3 green Changes to California’s
zero-emissions vehicle mandate credit system may be in the works,
owing to the glut of zero-emissions credits circulating thanks to
Tesla and others, according to recent reports. Specifically, the
point is that it may become harder for EV leaders (like Tesla
Motors) to sell ZEV credits.

What does VW's diesel-pollution mitigation program actually do?
Last month's settlement proposal to resolve the claims of more
than 450,000 owners of VW and Audi 2.0-liter diesel cars contains
quite a few separate requirements in its hundreds of pages.
As well as buybacks of the affected cars and separate cash
payments to owners, it requires Volkswagen to set up two separate
funds…

lawmakers. Britain should consider prosecuting Volkswagen over
the diesel emissions scandal, a committee of lawmakers said on
Friday, accusing the government of being too slow to decide
whether the German automaker broke the law.

Government is letting VW off the hook over emissions scandal, say
MPs. Although 1.2m UK diesel cars were affected by Volkswagen’s
defeat devices, ‘little action’ has been taken by regulators,
report finds. A lack of determination by the government to hold
Volkswagen to account may allow the car manufacturer get away
with cheating emissions tests in Europe, MPs have warned.

GREEN ENERGY

Clean Energy Puts a Dent in Carbon Dioxide Emissions. Americans
are using less electricity as buildings become more
energy-efficient and industrial power demand weakens, and a new
report says that is leading to three trends: Declining carbon
dioxide emissions, low electric power prices and the decline of
coal, which has until recently been the primary fuel used to
produce electricity.

California oil refineries may soon see tighter safety controls
under state regulations proposed Thursday, four years after a
leaky pipe triggered a fire at Chevron’s Richmond plant and sent
15,000 people to the hospital. The new rules are an effort to
make the state’s 18 refineries safer for workers and neighboring

OPINIONS

Brown’s ARB makes a sly and maybe risky move in carbon chess
game. Those who relish complex political gamesmanship will love
this week’s sly maneuver by Gov. Jerry Brown’s administration on
its contentious – and imperiled – carbon emission crusade.
Brown’s Air Resources Board issued a very lengthy, highly
technical draft of new rules purporting to extend its
cap-and-trade program…

Britain closes down global warming bureaucracy. The almost
unthinkable has happened. In a clear sign that the global
warming fraud has peaked and is on the decline, an actual
government agency has been abolished because it was dedicated to
global warming. Andrew Follett of the Daily Caller writes:
Britain’s new government abolished its Department of Energy and
Climate Change (DECC)…

Closing Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant Will Cost Money And Raise
Carbon Emissions. A widespread claim—that dozens of nuclear
plants merit subsidies to protect the earth’s climate—has been
borne out by reality. One of America’s most prominent and
technically capable utilities, Pacific Gas & Electric Company,
recently announced its decision to close its well-running,

Making Gas Pipelines Safer for Communities and the Climate. In
response to the deadly natural gas explosion in San Bruno,
California, the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety
Administration (PHMSA) is proposing new regulations to make
pipelines safer. The regulations will go a long way toward
safeguarding communities from the risks of natural gas
explosions, but, if they’re done right, they could also protect
the climate.
