obdprog -- "Clean" versions of latest On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) regulations and updated OBD II monitor checklists posted

Posted: 08 Aug 2016 13:21:01
The "clean" versions (no strikeouts or underlines) of the latest
OBD regulations and updated OBD II monitor checklists have been
made available on the OBD website. These consist of the entire
OBD II and heavy-duty OBD regulations for sections 1968.2,
1968.5, 1971.1, and 1971.5 that were approved by the Office of
Administrative Law on July 25, 2016, which include the amendments
from the latest OBD rulemaking update (Board Hearing September
24-25, 2015).

The documents can be found at the ARB OBD webpage:

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/obdprog/obdprog.htm

Additionally, the electronic templates for the OBD II gasoline
and diesel monitoring requirements checklists (which
manufacturers are required to submit to ARB when certifying their
OBD II systems) have been updated to reflect the recently
approved final regulation order for the OBD II regulation
(section 1968.2). Manufacturers are required to use these
updated templates for future submissions to ARB as soon as
possible. These files can be found on the following website:

Background:
OBD systems are self-diagnostic systems incorporated into the
computers of new vehicles. The OBD II system monitors virtually
every component that can affect the emission performance of the
vehicle to ensure that the vehicle remains as clean as possible
over its entire life, and assists repair technicians in
diagnosing and fixing problems with the computerized engine
controls. All 1996 and newer model year light-duty and
medium-duty vehicles less than 14,000 lbs. are equipped with OBD
II systems, while heavy-duty vehicles over 14,000 lbs. have
phased in OBD systems starting with the 2010 model year. For
further information about the OBD program, please visit the OBD
website at http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/obdprog/obdprog.htm.
