CAP AND TRADE

Trudeau says Canada to implement carbon tax. Canadian Prime
Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday that Canada will impose a tax
on carbon emissions starting in 2018 as part of its efforts to
meet targets set by the Paris climate change accord.
Trudeau made the announcement in Parliament on Monday as debate
started over whether Canada should ratify the Paris accord on
climate change.

AIR POLLUTION

EPA sues Erie Coke Corp. over pollution concerns at plant. EPA
sued Erie Coke Corp. over concerns about pollution at its
northwestern Pennsylvania plant. The EPA claimed the company
failed to fix leaks of the chemical benzene, which can cause
cancer with excessive exposure, the Erie Times-News reported

identify potential sources of benzene emissions"…

Methane bill a mixed bag for local dairies. Law could require 40
percent reduction in methane coming from dairy manure by 2030. A
landmark methane reduction law signed by Gov. Jerry Brown last
week has local dairy farmers wondering how they’ll achieve the
goal. The bill is likely to require dairies to cut their manure
methane emissions to 60 percent of 2013 levels by 2030.

DROUGHT

One word to describe the last water year? Dry. here were high
hopes going into water year 2016. To hear some forecasters and
scientists tell it, El Niño was coming to save California. With a
little luck and a lot of rain, the drought might finally recede
in its fifth year — or at least loosen its grip on the state. The
