Posted: 24 Oct 2016 12:56:47
Air Resources Board is holding a public meeting to discuss transportation electrification barriers and solutions for heavy-duty fleets on Monday, November 14, 2016. The meeting will include representatives from the California Public Utilities Commission, California electric utilities, and fleets that are already operating zero emission trucks or buses, including transit fleets and truck fleet operators. Topics will include updates on progress towards supporting SB350 transportation electrification goals with opportunities for utilities and fleet owners to discuss emerging concerns and experiences in deploying zero emission vehicles in California. Topics may also include an overview of vehicle deployment logistics and operation management, infrastructure expansion, energy storage and funding program coordination. All interested parties are welcome to participate. The agenda will be posted before the meeting. The time and location for the meeting are as follows: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2016 Byron Sher Auditorium Cal/EPA Headquarters Building 1001 I Street, Sacramento, California 95814 This meeting will be webcast and can be watched at https://video.calepa.ca.gov/ Stakeholders viewing by webcast can submit comments and questions to staff during the workshop through email at auditorium@calepa.ca.gov All workgroup materials, including agenda, presentations, etc. will be posted on the Advanced Clean Transit website at: https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/bus/actmeetings.htm and at the Advanced Clean Truck website at https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/actruck/actruck.htm If you have any questions regarding this meeting, please contact Yachun Chow, Manager, Zero Emission Truck and Bus Section, at yachun.chow@arb.ca.gov or at (916) 322-7450. Background In November 2015, staff presented the technology assessment results of fuel cell electric vehicles, battery electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, natural gas vehicles, and low NOx engines to the Board with the commercialization stage of each technology highlighted. Overall, the assessment finds that battery electric vehicles are beginning to penetrate the medium and heavy-duty vehicle markets and fuel cell electric vehicles are primarily in demonstration stages, although early commercial models are available for transit buses from two manufacturers. In addition, zero emission buses have similar performance and reliability as conventional buses and are in the early commercialization phase. Staff concluded that low-NOx engines would become commercially available soon. Therefore, ARB is currently in the process of working with stakeholders to develop an Advanced Clean Transit proposal and is also working on strategies to incorporate these advanced clean technologies in local delivery truck applications where suited.
