CLIMATE CHANGE

Australia ratifies greenhouse gas targets agreed on in Paris.
Australia on Thursday ratified its greenhouse gas emission
targets agreed upon last year at the U.N. climate meeting in
Paris. Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull told Parliament that
Australia had become the 140th country to ratify the agreement
signed by 196 nations in New York in April, following the
December meeting in Paris.

Donald Trump Could Put Climate Change on Course for ‘Danger Zone’
President-elect Donald J. Trump, who has called human-caused
climate change a “hoax” perpetuated by the Chinese, will have the
power next year to water down President Obama’s climate change
regulations and ignore the United States’ commitments under last
year’s Paris climate agreement.

The Global Dangers of Trump’s Climate Denial. The U.S.
President-elect inherits a crisis in the form of climate change.
Here’s how he might respond. Donald Trump’s surprising victory in
the U.S. presidential election will ignite a dramatic change to
U.S. environmental policy. Trump has signaled that his
administration will reject President Barack Obama’s policies
aimed at combating climate change…

DROUGHT

California Drought Puts Renewed Focus On Dry Grape Growing For
Wineries. California’s drought is forcing farmers across the
state to squeeze the most out of every last drop of water, but
what if it was possible to grow a bountiful crop with no water at
all? One local winery is doing just that, with a centuries-old
technique enjoying a renaissance in parched California.

La Niña Arrives, Likely to Exacerbate Southern Drought. La Niña
is here. But unlike the El Niño that preceded it, this climate
event is expected to be weak and short-lived, the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Thursday. But that
doesn’t mean the U.S. won’t see some of the typical impacts of a
La Niña; forecasters expect it to tilt the odds in favor of
warmer, drier conditions…

Oil Prices Fall as IEA Reports Record OPEC Production. Group’s
member nations set to meet Nov. 30 to approve plan to cap
production. Oil prices fell Thursday after the International
Energy Agency reported record production from Organization of the
Petroleum Exporting Countries members and subdued expectations

Oil, Coal Seen as Winners With Donald Trump Victory. Election win
buoyed investors in fossil fuels while sending shares of wind and
solar firms tumbling. Donald Trump’s surprise victory fanned
expectations in the energy industry that he would clear the path
for new pipelines, end U.S. participation in global climate
change pacts and undo environmental regulations to boost American
coal mining.

GREEN ENERGY

Rule would boost solar and wind energy development. The Obama
administration took action Thursday to boost the development of
solar and wind energy on public lands. A final rule announced by
the Interior Department would create a new leasing program on
public lands and encourage development in areas where it would
have fewer effects on the environment.

Britain's last coal power plants to close by 2025. Government to
phase out the most polluting fossil and replace it with cleaner
sources, such as gas, to meet climate commitments. The last coal
power station in Britain will be forced to close in 2025, the
government said as it laid out its plan to phase-out the
polluting fossil fuel. Ministers promised last year that the UK
would close coal power…

Interior finalizes landmark competitive leasing rule. The
Interior Department today finalized a new rule establishing a
competitive leasing process for renewable energy projects on
federal lands, a move the agency says will ensure future
administrations continue to advance green energy projects. The

OPINIONS

Conservatives elected Trump; now they own climate change. Anyone
who voted for Trump shares the responsibility for the climate
damages resulting from his presidency. Many of us in the United
States are in deep shock and despair. The election of Donald
Trump speaks of a country and a world that represents so many
things that go against our deepest grains.

How Not to Fight Climate Change, Pipeline Edition. A pipeline in
North Dakota has become a rallying cry for protesters seeking to
stop new fossil fuel projects. Their goal -- reducing emissions
-- is the right one, but their methods --opposing and sabotaging
pipelines -- are wrong. Maybe the pipeline, which once completed
would carry oil to a shipping terminal in Illinois, needs to be
rerouted to protect sources…

Colorado voters just made it a lot harder to pass fracking bans.
In recent years, a number of communities in the state have passed
local bans, but the state Supreme Court struck them down.
Activists then decided to try to change the constitution to allow
local fracking bans. So the oil and gas industry then decided to
try to make changing the constitution more difficult.
