Not all air-cleaning devices are appropriate for home use — some can be harmful to human health. The ARB recommends that ozone generators, air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone, not be used in the home. A new fact sheet on ozone generators sold as air purifiers is now available. To read or download a copy, please visit our web page at http://www.arb.ca.gov/research/indoor/ozone.htm . For additional information on ozone generators sold as air purifiers, please contact Jim Behrmann at jbehrman@arb.ca.gov or 916 445 0753. Staff of the Air Resources Board are releasing a report on their testing of ozone emissions from ozone-generating "air cleaners". ARB staff tested four devices that intentionally generate ozone in order to determine their emission rates and the resulting room concentrations. The Staff Report, “Evaluation of Ozone Emissions From Portable Indoor “Air Cleaners” That Intentionally Generate Ozone”, will be discussed at the May 25, 2006 meeting of the Board. The report and an updated list of ozone generators sold as "air purifiers" are available at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/research/indoor/ozone.htm Information on the Board meeting is available at http://www.arb.ca.gov/board/board.htm . If you have questions on the report or the list of ozone generators, please contact Tom Phillips of my staff at tphillip@arb.ca.gov or at 916-445-0753. Regards, /s/ Peggy L.
