Rebates for clean vehicles are now available through the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) funded by the Air Resources Board (ARB) and implemented statewide by the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE). The rebates offer up to $5,000 for the purchase or lease of zero-emission and plug-in hybrid light-duty vehicles and up to $20,000 for the purchase or lease of ARB-certified or approved zero-emission commercial vehicles on a first-come, first-served basis. The rebates are available to individuals, business owners and government entities in California that purchase or lease new eligible vehicles on or after March 15, 2010. Eligible vehicles are electric drive cars, trucks, commercial medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, motorcycles or neighborhood electric vehicles. Manufacturers of zero emission vehicles must apply to ARB to have their vehicles included in the rebate project. The Advanced Technology Demonstration Project was approved by the Board as part of the AB 118 Air Quality Improvement Program Funding Plan for Fiscal Year 2009-10. On June 24, 2010, the Board unanimously approved the Funding Plan with no changes. The approved Funding Plan will provide continued funding for existing AQIP project categories in addition to adding a new project category for off-road hybrid technology. AB 118 provides up to $50 million annually through 2015 for the AQIP to fund a variety of air quality incentive projects, including low-emission vehicles and equipment projects, air quality research, and advanced energy technology workforce training. As part of developing the FY 2011-12 Funding Plan, ARB staff will seek public input to evaluate the project categories funded in 2010-11 and evaluate potential funding of new categories.
